Cooperative shareholders: making a financial, and personal, investment

8.1 million customers of Banque Populaire banks and Caisses d’Epargne have chosen to become cooperative shareholders. By doing so, they contribute to the growth of their banking partners and to the development of the economic and social fabric of their regions. A great many go even further and make a local commitment, alongside their banks, by becoming actively involved in societal projects and social solidarity initiatives.

Working together for the common good

Every customer of Banque Populaire or Caisse d'Epargne may become a cooperative shareholder by acquiring shares. The cooperative shareholders receive annual remuneration for the shares they own.Involved in the strategic reflections and day-to-day lives of their banks, the cooperative shareholders elect from among their numbers the directors chosen to represent them within their bank*. Working together for the common good: based on mutual trust, cooperation creates a special relationship between the bank and its customers/cooperative shareholders and – quite naturally – is founded on the long term.

Cooperation in action

Playing a major role in French economic life, the Banque Populaire banks and the Caisses d’Epargne provide concrete proof every day of their active commitment in favor of their respective regions. Faithful observers of the economic and social conditions at a regional level, the cooperative shareholders and their representatives are the best possible ambassadors for this commitment.
Thanks to a network of clubs, advisory services, meetings and strategy seminars, summer schools and dedicated online forums, the cooperative shareholders exchange ideas and make proposals. With their array of social and local economy projects, ‘Coups de Cœur‘ most-favored schemes, regional initiative awards, business start-up meetings, voluntary work ‘Oscar’ awards, etc., the cooperative shareholders act and make a personal investment for a more entrepreneurial and more mutually supportive society.

* Directly in the Banques Populaires and through a two-tier election process in the Caisses d’Epargne.

The customers/cooperative shareholders guarantee the independence of their banks, and provide them with the resources they need for their ongoing development. This allows the bank to create solutions closely tailored to its customers’ needs and to support them in their projects over the long term.
